Trying to explore the Asheville craft beer scene is a bit overwhelming, especially for those unfamiliar with locations. But the new Asheville Beer Expo, Feb. 27, will have 30 Western North Carolina breweries under one roof, plus some great panel discussions on the beer industry.
The Expo, produced by the Asheville Brewers Alliance, will be held at The Venue, 21 North Market St., downtown, just off Interstate 240. Along with great beer, panels will look at such topics as starting a brewery, making beer with local ingredients, and the return of craft lager. There are two sessions - 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. and you can see the panels for both at avlbeerexpo.com/#breweries. Tickets are $25 which include five drink tokens.
As for the beers, Wicked Weed is bringing a triple IPA called Triple Double Freak, Wedge will have a Belgian dark strong abbey ale, Oskar Blues will have Bourbon Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY, Green Man brings out the Dweller and Lookout Brewing of Black Mountain serves Key Lime Pie Saison. I have most of the list posted on the Carolina Beer Guy Facebook page.
In addition to the new Palmetto logo, the brewery has given their packaging design a significant makeover. Each beer label captures Charleston scenery in a unique, interpretive line art. Utilizing advancements in printing technology, the new designs showcase a free-flowing, multi-colored, shimmering aquatic motif. Fresh-look Palmetto cans will soon arrive in 4-state distribution, following their debut in the Charleston tasting room.
